It must be something in the water. I posted a defense of derision on Saturday morning; today, Shakespeare's Sister writes her own eloquent defense of derision (specifically, toward wacky irrationalist beliefs that the wingnuts would have us accept as alternative 'theories'). Shakes' post comes to us in the form of commentary on P. Z. Myers' commentary on a Charles Pierce article titled "Idiot America", and if that sounds too convoluted to bother with it really isn't--it's all well worth reading, including whatever of Pierce's piece isn't hidden behind the Esquire subscription wall.
