Research, Corner-Style

Via Matt Yglesias (no, not the Matt Yglesias at Tapped, or the Matt Yglesias at TPM Cafe--the other Matt Yglesias--and by the way, do any of them have any idea how confusing it is to have three different bloggers all named Matt Yglesias?), I learn that Jonah Goldberg has written a book (I would be truly shocked to hear that he had read one--thanks, I'll be here all week) called (I kid you not) "Liberal Fascism: The Totalitarian Temptation from Mussolini to Hillary Clinton". From the Amazon blurb: "Replacing conveniently manufactured myths with surprising and enlightening research, Jonah Goldberg shows that the original fascists were really on the Left..."

This explains the slightly cryptic bit he posted at The Corner about six months ago:

BLEG [Jonah Goldberg]: I'm working on a book about liberals and fascism that requires me to read a lot of stuff, and there's no way I'm going to do that. But if there are any real experts out there on the liberal nature of fascism--regardless of ideological affiliation--I'd love to ask you a few questions. Like, who's this Mussolini guy? Was he, like, the Mario Cuomo of his day? And was Francisco Franco really the father of softcore horror director Jesus Franco, who seems like he was probably a liberal because there's lots of naked women in his movies (I'm told)? Thanks.
I can hardly wait.
