Democrats and the South

I don't think it makes sense to write off the South altogether. As promising as the Western strategy is, I'm not sure we should put all our eggs in that particular basket. I'm for a 50 state party, for at least making an effort everywhere.

That said, there's the question of what we're willing to do to win in the South. There are people who are worth trying to reach, and there are people who aren't--people who won't vote for the Democrats unless we completely abandon everything that matters.

I have a simple way of differentiating them.

It's called the Civil War.

People who believe the good guys won, we have a chance with. We should do everything within reason to get their votes.

People who don't believe the good guys won can just go right ahead and kiss my Yankee ass.
