"Have you ever cheated on your wife?"

Monica Goodling reportedly asked that question of an applicant for a job in the U.S. Department of Justice.

Maybe Ms. Goodling really was just too good for the Washington world in which Karl Rove put her in charge.

As Tom often says (and I know you all listen), go read the whole thing. You really can't make this kind of stuff up.

Update: Is it premature of me to nominate Ms. Goodling to honorary Dickensian stature? Can she stand yet alongside such wearing-it-on-their-sleeves greats as Mr. Bumble, Mr. Guppy and Mr. Pecksniff?
