Fun with the iPod

(In lieu of Friday Random Ten...)

The girls and I drove to Georgia this afternoon to visit my mother for a few days. 9YOD doesn't really care what we listen to, but 14YOD and I sometimes clash regarding the musical selection. Which is kind of strange, because I think she has pretty good taste in music, and she's always borrowing my CDs to load onto her iTunes.

She put up with me starting at the beginning of my playlist -- at least for a while. I know my selection is a bit, um, eclectic, and because the list is in alpha order by artist, I might have a country ballad followed by headbanger music. With about half an hour to go, she finally talked me into letting her choose "just one song." Of course, she wouldn't tell me which one she wanted to hear; she had to find it herself and surprise me. I was expecting something new, but she busted out with the Talking Heads' "Take Me To the River", the live version from Stop Making Sense. There's hope for the youth of America after all.

Anyway, I thought it would be fun to go through and pick out every 20th song on my main playlist, just to see if there is any rhyme or reason to my musical choices:

  • "There's No Other Way" -- Blur

  • "Bell, Book and Candle" -- Eddi Reader

  • "My Wild Frontier" -- Faith Hill

  • "How To Save a Life" -- The Fray

  • "This Town" -- James Marsters

  • "Virgin State of Mind" -- K's Choice

  • "Saint Christopher" (Crash soundtrack) -- Mark Isham

  • "Stupid Thing" -- Nickel

  • "Losing My Religion" -- R.E.M.

  • "Possession" -- Sarah McLachlan

  • "Misery" -- Soul Asylum

  • "More Than Fine" -- Switchfoot

  • "The Tower" -- Vienna Tang

I'd have to say NO.
