Unintended Irony Watch - Homobigot Edition

In an article about gay-hating Episcopal priests receiving ordination in the Anglican church:

"The gospel of our Lord is clear in its teaching and must take precedence over our culture," said Drexel Gomez, a primate from the West Indies.

"Homosexual practice violates the order of life given by God in Holy Scripture," he added.
Um, Reverend Gomez? A couple of points:
  • Hatred of gay people? Not in the Gospels. Leviticus, of course. Letters of Paul, sure. Gospel, not so much.

  • Homophobia? Totally a product of 'our culture'. Falling back on religion to justify it is simply rationalizing one's cultural prejudices.

  • In other words, what you said means the exact opposite of what you think it means: Jesus' love (of lepers, of Samaritans, of everyone except Republicans...and maybe even them) should take precedence over our provincial prejudices (against gay people, against women, against people who look different or speak a different language).

  • So, just a tip: try understanding what you're talking about before you open your big fat trap, dumbass.
Glad I could clarify that for you.
