Still Life with Stag's Head

Stag Head

Previous

At Nick's Cove, where we had a lovely dinner last Friday evening. Nick's Cove was a roadhouse-with-cottages built back in the '30s; Jody and I stopped there for crab sandwiches whenever we were up in the neighborhood, until it closed down about five years ago. Pat Kuleto acquired it and spruced it up, but happily, did so without interfering with the overall interior scheme of the place. (Taxidermists restored the dead things, which had become rather moth-eaten over the years.) Prices are higher--somewhat for the food, extremely for the lodging--but taking that as a given, they did a fine job of preserving what they could. It's not the same as it was, but it's different without disrespecting what was there before. And the food really is excellent.
