Banal Retentive; or, The Continental

In the midst of producing a nice, firm column about how loose and irregular today's popular music scene has grown, David Brooks drops this bombshell:

It seems that whatever story I cover, people are anxious about fragmentation and longing for cohesion.
And with that, Brooks throws open the outhouse door: he's spending his career foisting on his audience the truthiness of his own gut feelings.

When all he ever needed was a little fiber.
