I'm planning to rush home early today so we can carve a jack-o-lantern and sweep off the front walk before the trick-or-treaters arrive. After the rush is over, we're going to hole up and watch Young Frankenstein. Which is totally different from this:
More...Just as [a children's librarian who dressed up as Minerva McGonagall] was about to take off her pointy hat and give up, she saw a mother and two children she recognized from the weekly "Story-Telling Hour" the library held for home-schooled children wanting to get out of the house. My friend waved at the family and plastered a big smile on her face. To her delight, they walked over.
The younger of the two boys smiled back and told her he didn't know "she hated Jesus." The older boy asked if she knew witches went to hell. The mother told her they would pray for her and explained how "good" people celebrated Halloween.
"At our house we have a special tradition," the mom said. "We turn off all the lights so no one will trick-or-treat us, and then we go in the basement and make waffles all night."
Waffles? What the hell? As my oldest daughter would say, "That was random!"
So -- how will you celebrate Halloween? Waffles, or something more demonic fun?
