This Modern America

Its a beautiful fall day in a middle class district of Blue America and I've just found out that one of my mommy friends from pre-school days is organizing a walk/fundraiser for her son who has hydro-encephaly today. They need money. They aren't covered by insurance, apparently, or it isn't all covered. This is simply absurd. I'll be out there walking and donating, but can anyone defend this system where people who should be focusing all their energy supporting their sick children, or continuing to work at their regular jobs, are forced to spend time and energy fundraising to pay for the medical bills one enormously complex fundraiser at a time?
