I'm wearing a Hawaiian shirt in mid-November. I'm not the only one. It's not as warm as it was earlier in the week (it hit 79, a new record for the date) but it's still in the 70s. It's been a whole string of bright cloudless days, with just enough haze to give the sunsets color. Yesterday after work I walked along the Embarcadero; the Berkeley Hills were tinted orange-red, flecked with golden sparkles where the sun reflected off windows. Early this morning I had to walk up to 25th & Geary, and the sun on the gilded dome of the Russian Orthodox cathedral was breathtaking. It's heartbreakingly beautiful weather, heartbreaking because the low angle of the light is a constant reminder that it can't last, that soon we'll have week upon week of dreary gray rain. But in the meantime, it's gorgeous weather in a gorgeous place, and it's good to be alive.
