Glenn Greenwald has a great post about how all the wingnuts who've been claiming that it's treasonous to criticize the President in a time of war are suddenly criticizing the hell out of him in the wake of the cease-fire agreement.
So, it's jingoism, not solidarity with the President, that equates to patriotism, then? Failing to be properly hawkish is treason. Greenwald's post links to many sources, including the horrifying William Quick, who asserts that the President's temperament was "hesitant, overly calculating, timid, and 'compassionate.'" [Quick puts quotation marks around the word compassionate for reasons that are not clear; the quotation marks imply that Quick thinks Bush's compassion wasn't genuine, but he then follows immediately with a remark about true compassion, and how it isn't appropriate in a time of "warfighting."]
In a situation where everything is a confused mess and World War III could break out, we mustn't be hesitant or calculating. That might give people time to think about peaceful solutions. God forbid we should be compassionate! That might reduce the number of civilian casualties! We need a better "warleader" [sic] in this time of "warfighting." Is the President being too compassionate? Then to hell with him and solidarity; let's all work to undermine the sonofabitch's credibility. We stand behind this wimp at our nation's peril, y'know.
Bush is now a warfailure, because he didn't get his warmojo warworkin' well enough to give the warwingnuts adequate warjollies.
If these people weren't so scary, they'd be funny.
[That's all, folks]
