[Insert Generic 'What's Shakin'?' Joke Here]

Those of you who felt this morning's earthquake1 may well feel like you need a drink. So, for that matter, may many of you who didn't feel the earthquake. Happily, you're all in luck: the Barbarians (that's Bay Area Readers & Bloggers--yes, if you're reading this, you're invited) are getting together for a drink tomorrow2. Vital stats: Phoenix Irish Pub, 811 Valencia, 1 pm or thereabouts. Be there or...something.

14:42 am, magnitude 4.2, epicenter east of Highway 13 and south of Joaquin Miller in Oakland. Strong enough to wake me, not strong enough to elicit a response stronger than 'cool--it's an earthquake.' Quoted in the Chron, a USGS spokesperson puts it in perspective:

"It was all pretty minor," said U.S. Geological Survey spokeswoman Leslie Gordon. "It didn't interrupt doughnut production."
If you felt it (or didn't), you can fill out this survey (and check out results to see how your experience compares with others in your zip code), which is really kind of cool.

2The more paranoid among us might well question the wisdom of a bunch of lefties gathering in one place while Dick Cheney is president--it does, after all, make it a little too easy for them--but I say that's exactly when we all really need a drink.
